, Ohio — The DNA of a Cleveland man has been matched in the 1996 rape of a 12-year-old girl. CLEVELAND
Marion Williams III, 37, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of kidnapping, rape and having weapons under disability in the case.
According to court records, on Jan. 17, 1996, the girl was walking near West 65th Street and Franklin Avenue when she was grabbed by a man. He forced her to walk to the rear of a home on West Clinton Avenue. She was forced to the ground and raped at gunpoint.
The girl said the man told her he knew where she lived and would kill her if she told police what happened. The suspect fled, and the victim returned home and told her mother what had happened. She was treated at a local hospital.
In April, a search of the Ohio State DNA Index System returned a match to Williams. A warrant was issued, and he was arrested Aug. 1.
