PAINESVILLE, Ohio — A school administrator at Painesville’s Harvey High School resigned Monday, as both the district and local police investigate possible “improper behavior” with a student.

Police have been investigating former assistant principal David Klingenberg since May 2011.

The school district placed him on administrative leave Aug. 30 of this year, after learning of the police investigation.

No details of Klingenberg’s alleged wrongdoing are being made available.

The district released a statement regarding Klingenberg’s resignation at its regularly scheduled board meeting Monday night.

It reads, in part, “Nothing is more important that the safety and security of the students in our care. We will not tolerate behavior that jeopardizes the trust the community and our students place in us. We continue to cooperate with the police on their investigation of this.”

The district is conducting its own investigation.

Klingenberg’s resignation is effective immediately.
