DUNCAN, British Columbia — A Canadian dance studio is causing a stir with its latest class — pole dancing for kids.
The instructor said her classes are about fitness and fun, not sex.
She also said children who pole dance get an excellent cardiovascular and upper-body workout.
Her ‘Little Spinners’ class has four students signed up so far, and their parents already take the adult class.
“Some of my more advanced students have poles at home to practice and stretch. It would be great if there were classes where they could learn how to properly do something,” said Kristy Craig, the dance instructor. “There is nothing provocative. There is nothing sexual about it. It’s pure fitness and strength and fun. I mean, kids love climbing trees. They will climb anything.”
Kids pole dancing isn’t new.
There was a National Pole Dancing Championship in Russia last week, where kids as young as seven were allowed to compete.
