Track & Field Official Dies, Struck With Javelin
GERMANY — A track and field official in Germany was killed over the weekend after being struck with a javelin during a meet.
According to a BBC.com report, the 74-year-old official was struck in the throat with the javelin.
The report states that the official had walked out onto the field to measure a previous throw when he was struck by a throw from another competitor.
The track meet was immediately called off following the accident and according to the report, the 15-year-old who threw the javelin that accidentally killed the official is receiving psychological counseling.
