Police Search For Suspects After Woman’s Violent Attack
ZAINESVILLE, Ohio — A 29-year-old Canton woman was found naked and badly burned in Muskingum County Sunday morning, Fox 8 News reports.
Sheriff Matthew Lusk tells Fox 8 News that a passing motorist discovered the woman on State Route 208 and Steel Mill Road at around 8:30 a.m.
She had been raped and was suffering from fourth degree burns all over her body. The woman’s name was not released as she was the victim of a sexual assault.
The woman was flown by medical helicopter to Ohio State University Medical Center, where she remains unconscious, in critical condition.
Detectives with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) processed a crime scene near a wooded area and collected evidence.
Lusk says investigators are looking for “people of interest,” believed to be in Stark County. A vehicle of interest has been impounded in Canton for processing, but no one has been arrested.
The crime was not a random act, according to Lusk. He believes the suspects knew their victim.
The Stark County Sheriff’s Office and Canton Police Department are assisting with the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Muskingum Sheriff’s Office at (740) 452-3637, ext: 148.
