OAKLAND — The Cleveland Indians gave their fans a cheap offensive thrill on Friday in Oakland only to lay down their bats for the rest of the night.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when the Tribe stepped up to the plate in a major way.
Shelley Duncan pounded his first grand slam to put the team on the scoreboard with a 4-0 lead.
It was short-lived, however, as the Athletics posted three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth.
That would be the last of the Tribe’s offensive action.
The A’s crossed the plate again in the fifth and twice in the eighth to win the game 6-4.
Cleveland faces the A’s for the second game of the three-game series at 9:05 p.m. on Saturday in Oakland.
