Summerfield to Make Court Appearance Today
MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio — The man accused of killing his girlfriend then alluding police for more than five weeks will make his first appearance in court today.
Nate Summerfield, 27, is being held in the Medina County jail awaiting an extradition hearing set for 10:30 a.m.
The hearing will determine when Summerfield gets extradited to North Carolina to face murder charges in the death of 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer.
The body of the Ashland mother was discovered in mid-July near the Outer Banks in North Carolina where the couple had vacationed with her two children. Authorities say she had been strangled and stabbed.
Summerfield drove the children back to relatives in Ohio, where he allegedly admitted to killing his longtime girlfriend to a family member before he went into hiding. Summerfield was on the run for more than five weeks before his arrest at a Wadsworth hotel.
Officials say they are investigating whether Summerfield had any accomplices. If so, those individuals will face federal charges.
