Murder Suspect Nate Summerfield Arrested
ASHLAND COUNTY — Murder suspect Nate Summerfield has been arrested according to an official with the U.S. Marshals Office.
Peter J. Elliott of the Marshals Office says that Summerfield was taken into custody in Medina County on Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Elliott said that authorities tracked Summerfield to a hotel located at 1810 High Street.
Summerfield has been on the run since early July after admitting to a family member that he had killed his longtime girlfriend Lynn Jackenheimer. A nationwide manhunt ensued shortly thereafter.
Ashland County Sheriff’s deputies say Jackenheimer disappeared during a trip to North Carolina with Summerfield, and her children, ages 3 and 13.
According to authorities Summerfield and the children returned to Ashland on July 8, 2012 without Lynn.
“Nate shows up in Ashland County, drops the kids off at a family member’s house, has a conversation with one of his relatives and he made certain statements to the relative that he had done something to her and that he needed to get out of here,” said Capt. Carl Richert, with the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department.
“I wanted to report a possible murder… my brother was in North Carolina with his ex-girlfriend and he came back and said he strangled her, he dropped his kid off and left,” Summerfield’s brother told a dispatcher in a call to 911.
