CLEVELAND — Former Browns center LeCharles Bentley has settled a lawsuit against the team, Fox 8 News reports.

A spokesperson for the Browns confirmed that an agreement had been reached, but declined to provide further details.

Bentley on Monday night released the following statement to FOX Sports reporter Pat McManamon, who first reported the settlement:

“These last six years have been the most trying time of my life, but now that it is over I can honestly say I am a better man for having gone through it. Randy Lerner and I – two men born and raised in Cleveland – were able to sit down face to face back in June and come to an agreement that was fair.”

Bentley had sued the team back in 2006, alleging he contracted a staph infection from the team’s facility. The Browns settled a similar suit with Joe Jurevicius.
