CANTON — Canton Mayor William Healey presented a proclamation to Lance Corporal Dustin Gallentine after he arrived at the Akron Canton Airport from Afghanistan Monday.

Gallentine, a 2010 graduate of Canton Timken High School, was given a surprise welcome home by members of the Patriot Guard as well as former teachers, friends and family.

The Patriot Guard is provided Lance Cpl. Gallentine an escort from the airport.

Lance Cpl. Gallentine joined the Marine Corps right out of high school. He has been deployed to Afghanistan from Camp Pendleton since January.

He is currently on leave to be the best man in his father’s wedding. His father, Scott Gallentine, is a special education teacher in Lake County and plans on tying the knot on August 25th in Canton.
