Family, Friends Hold Vigil to Honor Slain Mother
LORAIN, Ohio — Dozens turned out for a candlelight vigil to remember a young Lorain mother who was found dead in her apartment complex, weeks after she was reported missing.
More than 100 people turned out for the vigil for Catherine Hoholski, 26, of Lorain, Sunday night at Veterans’ Park in Lorain. She went by the nickname Kat.
Police arrested her boyfriend, Albert Fine, 30, of Lorain, for her murder.
“Why? What happened, you know there’s just so much unanswered questions still,” said Hoholski’s friend Amanda Burton.
Hoholski was reported missing in mid-July by her parents. Her body was found Wednesday at the apartment complex on Tower Boulevard where she lived with the suspect, police said.
“I know that they’ve been dating for a while and obviously he’s the father of the baby,” Burton said.
Friends said Hoholski was a loving mother to her baby, Jasmine, who was born premature in March and remains hospitalized.
“[Hoholski] was like very outgoing and always happy and everyone loved to be around her,” said Dawn Gawlik.
After police found Hoholski’s body, they issued a murder warrant for Fine.
Police said they found him in Kentucky on Thursday with another woman. The woman was questioned by police and released, police said.
Friends are hoping for justice.
“I really believe that he did kill her,” said Jody Kelly
“We believe that Catherine is at peace and now the real work starts for her family,” said Pastor Lisa Morrison of the Cornerstone United Methodist, which Hoholski attended regularly.
Fine will be extradited back to Ohio to face murder charges.
Friends said Hoholski’s baby is expected to be released from the hospital within a few weeks.
