LaTourette’s Replacement Announced
WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — The GOP has voted Geauga County Prosecutor David Joyce to replace Steve LaTourette in Ohio’s 14th Congressional District.
A seven-county, 13 member Republican committee on Friday afternoon met at the Willoughby Hills Community Center to decide on a candidate for the Nov. 6 election.
Some people who attended said they were disappointed in the process because there was very little discussion of the candidate and no one else was nominated.
After the nomination, Joyce held a news conference at his office in Chardon where he said he is very excited to step into the race.
Joyce has served as Geauga County Prosecutor for more than 20 years. His notoriety as a prosecutor peaked during the Lundgren cult killings.
Joyce said he will continue with his duties as prosecutor until the election. He also stated he will vigorously prosecute the case against accused Chardon school shooter T.J. Lane which he hopes to have wrapped up before November.
Democratic nominee Dale Blanchard, of Solon, released the following statement:
“I welcome Mr. Joyce to the race. I look forward to a spirited debate on the issues that will affect this country for years to come. I will support policies that will grow the economy and benefit all Americans.”
LaTourette recently announced he was not seeking re-election because of his frustration with partisan politics.
