HINCKLEY, Ohio — A Medina County sixth grader won a food contest and the prize is the opportunity to dine with the first lady.

Logan Kendall, 11, just learned he is the Ohio winner in the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.

The contest was sponsored by the food website epicurious.com and First Lady Michelle Obama.

His mom, Rose Marie Kendall, said Logan has been helping out in the kitchen since he was seven.  His aunt encouraged him to enter the contest.  His entry was inspired by his grandmother who made a veggie pizza.

Logan made a shredded veggie wrap that judges said was creative, tasted great and, most importantly, was healthy.

“People said that they really liked it.  I made it for some parties, just a couple times, and they enjoyed it,” Logan said.

His mom thinks the secret is in the sauce.

“I think because of this cream cheese mixture, in addition to, instead of the traditional veggies I guess, he used a broccoli slaw. He also threw some turkey pepperoni in,” Rose Marie said.

The nationwide recipe challenge to promote healthy lunches is part of Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative.

Logan and the other state winners will have lunch with the first lady at the White House later this month.
