ATHENS, Ohio — Ohio University students were warned to be extra aware on campus after a kidnapping and rape was reported on Tuesday.

According to the Athens City Police Department, a female student said she was walking along Richland Ave., just north of the roundabout, when a vehicle stopped her.

A driver allegedly exited the vehicle, threatened the student with a knife and forced her into the vehicle.

He then drove to a nearby area, the student said, where he raped her.

The incident allegedly happened around 4 a.m. on April 8.

The Athens City Police Department has asked for information to be phoned in to (740) 592-3313.

Students are reminded to avoid walking alone, stay on well-traveled paths and report suspicious people by calling 911.

Safe-T Patrol escort requests may be made to (740) 593-4040.
