CLEVELAND — LaTaevia Williams turned 14 last week and now she’s gone, says her mother LaTonya Williams.

“My daughter can’t tell me what happened, she can’t tell me what happened because everybody else that was at the party they gone home. She not ever coming back home, so I don’t know what happened.”

A mother’s pain as she searches for answers on why her daughter was shot in the neck. LaTaevia later died at MetroHealth Medical Center.

“They were at a party and from my understanding, a fight broke out. She was telling her friends ‘come on let’s go’ when they started shooting. She tried to run and just seen her body fall,” says her mother.

Police say early Sunday morning around 12:40 a fight broke at a home out on Elberon Street in East Cleveland. Residents say they saw two cars pull up to the home and an argument ensued. Shortly thereafter, gunshots rang out.

Police believe there was more than one shooter and besides LaTaevia Williams, a 15-year-old boy was also shot in the neck and three others were struck too. They were all taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where the 15-year-old is still recovering. The others injured in the shooting were treated and released.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit at (216) 623-5464.
