Driver, 73, Killed Exiting Parking Lot

Deadly Accident

NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio — A 73-year-old Akron man was killed as he drove out of a private parking lot on Tuesday.

According to the Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, George Derry failed to yield and his minivan was hit by a Chevy Express passenger van.

It happened around 12:40 p.m. on Manchester Road (SR 93) north of Pearlman Street in New Franklin.

Derry was taken to Barberton City Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:17 p.m.

The other driver and his passenger were not injured.

Derry was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The crash was under investigation at the time of this report.
