Woman, 71, Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident

SANDY TWP., Ohio — Authorities are looking for one of two drivers who hit and killed a 71-year-old woman in Stark County.

According to the Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mary Russell, of Waynesburg, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene.

She had been walking on SR 43 south at Priscilla Street SE in Sandy Twp. when a car hit her from behind, the Highway Patrol said.

The accident happened on Tuesday around 1:10 a.m.

The first driver left the scene.  The make and model of the vehicle was unknown.

The driver of a second vehicle stopped after striking Russell, who was lying in the road.

That driver was wearing his seat belt and was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
