CLEVELAND –The Cuyahoga County medical examiner’s office on Wednesday identified a teenage drowning victim that lost his life in a designated swimming area.

Terry Hansard, 18, of Convoy, Ohio, in Van Wert County near Indiana, went missing in Lake Erie at Euclid Beach State Park on Tuesday evening.

According to the Cleveland Division of Police, Hansard and two relatives attempted to swim to a breakwall in a designated swimming area.

When the other two realized Hansard had disappeared, they immediately called 911 for help around 9 p.m.

Rescuers canvassed the area by boat and helicopter, the Ninth Coast Guard District said.

The search ended around 10:30 p.m. when the Cleveland Recovery Dive Team pulled the body from the water.

Hansard’s family was known to frequent the beach.
