LAKEWOOD, Ohio – Two people were taken to the hospital after they were involved in an accident during which their Porsche sheared off a treetop as they plunged into a valley.

It allegedly happened a short time after the driver fled from police and the chase was suspended.

The victims, identified by Lakewood police as a 47-year-old man and 24-year-old man who are believed to be Fairview Park residents, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The Porsche was headed west on Detroit Road at 3:42 a.m. on Tuesday when an officer attempted to stop the car because of an expired license plate, Lakewood police said.

The driver took off, but after a brief attempt to catch up to the Porsche, it gained too much of a lead and the chase was terminated.

A short time later, a resident reported that a car plunged into a valley after cutting through the parking lot of the Commodore Club, which is an apartment building at the west end of Detroit Road.

The car sheared off the top of a tree before it slammed into the street below then continued down another embankment.

When help arrived, one man had to be removed from the vehicle.

The other was already out but it was unknown if he escaped on his own or was ejected.

Valley Parkway was closed for a time but later reopened.
