FISHERS, Indiana — A basketball coach faces battery charges following a dispute with one of his players.
Fishers police arrested Fred Freeman, 47, Hartford, Wis., after a female player told officers she and Freeman argued when their team lost a basketball game. The incident happened at the Indiana Fieldhouse Sports Complex at 11825 Technology Dr. in Fishers.
The 17-year-old player said Freeman punched her in the face, threw her to the ground and put his hands around her throat while she was down. The parent of another player told police she saw Freeman hit the victim, who suffered scratches and bruises on her arms and legs.
Officers located Freeman at an area restaurant. He admitted to restraining the girl, but told police he was the victim. Police arrested Freeman and transported him to the Hamilton County Jail on a misdemeanor battery charge.
