Body of Local War Hero Returns Home
MENTOR, Ohio — The body of a Korean War Army corporal declared Missing in Action (MIA) will be finally laid to rest.
Army Cpl. Pryor Gobble arrived at Hopkins International Airport Sunday afternoon.
Cpl. Gobble was reported as MIA in September 1950, and while his remains were found in 1994, he wasn’t identified until this year. Cpl. Gobble was 18-years-old when he was sent to serve in the Army’s 31st Regimental Combat Team. Gobble and most of his team were killed in an attack by opposing forces near the Chosin Reservoir.
His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio funeral home. The funeral home is located at 6330 Center Street in Mentor. His final resting place will be at Concord Cemetery in Concord Township.
