MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio — Dive teams and several local fire departments rescued a man from Berlin Lake Saturday afternoon.
According to Berlin Fire Chief Rick Peppel, the man was attempting to swim across Berlin Lake to a sandbar while carrying a child.
According to bystanders, the man began to struggle and another swimmer swam to the child to the sandbar. The man then went under the water and didn’t resurface. The Berlin Dive Team located him with sonar equipment approximately 20 minutes later. He was then flown to a hospital in Youngstown, where his condition is currently unknown.
The child was not injured in the incident.
