GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — A man is facing animal cruelty charges after his dog died, allegedly from being left in a hot car.

Police in Galveston, Texas believe Bill Omer left his pit bull in the car for more than an hour in the sweltering heat.

The 23-year-old then posed for a rather unusual mugshot, smiling and giving a thumbs up.

Investigators say Omer was holding his dead pet when they arrived. He is charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal.

CNN Wire reports were used in this article.
