AVON LAKE, Ohio — The body of a man who disappeared near Miller Road Park on Wednesday evening was recovered on Thursday morning.

Avon Lake Police tell Fox 8 News that the body of 23-year-old Anthony Norman of Bristoville, Ohio was recovered near the GenOn Power Plant before 8:00 a.m.

The U.S. Coast Guard was searching Lake Erie late Wednesday night for Norman after he went missing while fishing with some friends at approximately 8:30 p.m. Norman’s friend told police that he fell into the water. They tried to save him, but were unsuccessful.

The Avon Lake Fire Department dispatched a dive team to the scene, and a Coast Guard boat and helicopter searched the waters for the man until just before 1 a.m.

Many members of Norman’s family had returned to Miller Road Park on Thursday morning to continue their search of the water. It was at the park that authorities informed family members of Anthony’s passing.
