Toddler Left Outside in the Rain While Caretaker Visits Bar

ELYRIA, Ohio — Authorities say a woman left her 3-year-old niece outside on a balcony and her infant daughter, 2-months-old, on a bed while she visited a local bar Sunday.
The woman, Resha Logan, 28, was arrested after a neighbor called police to an apartment complex around 9:30 p.m to the 200 block of Washington Avenue saying the toddler was outside in the rain. Police say no one answered the door when they arrived, and once inside they found the infant sleeping in an adult bed, covered in blankets and sweating heavily.
Police say they were on scene for 10 minutes before Logan arrived, saying she left the children in her nephew’s care for five minutes. However, police say the nephew was not present in the apartment when they arrived.
Authorities say Logan then told them she was at Ely’s Inn for 30 minutes with her mother, who also lives at the residence. She said she had one beer and one shot, and returned home when a neighbor told her police were at their apartment. Police say this account clashed with an account from a bartender who says Logan was at the bar when she came to work at 6:50 p.m. that evening.
Police arrested Logan on two counts of child endangering charges. She has plead not guilty to both and her first court appearance is scheduled for July 12th. Lorain County Children’s Services is also investigating the incident.
