Mayor Preps for Ohio Governor’s Visit to Sign School Plan Into Law
CLEVELAND — Ohio Governor John Kasich plans to visit Cleveland Monday to sign Mayor Frank Jackson’s Cleveland Metropolitan School District transformation plan into law Monday.
Governor Kasich will be signing House Bill 525 at John F. Kennedy High School on Cleveland’s east side. The bill will allow Mayor Jackson to establish a local panel–the Transformation Alliance–that will help set standards in major district changes. Under the plan, changes such as teacher layoffs and recalls will be made via an evaluation process instead of seniority.
The governor and mayor will be joined by several other elected officials at the signing ceremony, which is set to being at 11 a.m.
