Eastlake Police Arrest Sleepy, Drunken Driver Who Left License Plate Behind

EASTLAKE, Ohio — Eastlake Police arrested a 27-year-old man late Thursday night who was allegedly drunk, and very tired while driving.

According to a police report on the incident, officers were dispatched to East 337th Street around 10:00 p.m. after receiving a call of a vehicle parked on the grass between the Eastview Meadows apartments and the Eastlake Terrace apartments.

Witnesses told police that Michael W. Holley was sleeping behind the wheel.

The witnesses then told officers that Holley awoke and put the car in drive. In the process of trying to drive the vehicle Holley ran over a parking barrier, knocking it upside down. The vehicle’s license plate was knocked off and left behind in the crash.

According to the report, the driver then proceeded to swerve down the parking lot of Eastlake Terrace apartments before stopping and falling asleep again.

A witness told police that he walked up to the car, woke Holley and asked if he was injured. Holley sped away down East 337 Street.

Police later located the vehicle at the Maple Park Apartments.

According to the report, when officers approached the vehicle they asked if Holley had been drinking and he replied, “I wish I could say no.”

According to the Eastlake Police Facebook page, Holley was arrested and charged with OVI. He submitted a blood alcohol breath test, registering .210, well over the legal limit of .08 in Ohio.
