TAMPA, Florida –A heroic story is coming out of a tragic event spawned by the tropical storm that has devastated the state of Florida.

According to a Tampa.CBSlocal.com report, a three-year-old girl and her mother were swept out of their home and tossed 200 feet into a nearby woods by a tornado. The tornado originated from the winds of Tropical Storm Debby.

The home the family shared was pulled from its foundation and the mother and daughter were flung in the air, according to the report.

When authorities arrived at the scene they found the mother clutching her daughter.

The mother had died from injuries she sustained in the ordeal, but she saved the life of her child, according to the report.

“I am so proud of my daughter,” the woman’s father told television station WGRZ. “I can picture her holding that little girl of hers. She died for her.”
