Woman Charged in Hit-Skip That Injured Brothers

SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol has charged a Lorain woman with a hit-and-run that left a 17-year-old and his four-year-old brother injured.
According to Lieutenant T.A. Hughes, Maxine L. Whitfield, 27, has been charged with hit-skip, vehicular assault and tampering with evidence in connection to the June 13, 2012 incident on Clifton Avenue in Sheffield Township.
According to Lt. Hughes, 17-year-old Matthew Hollingsworth, of Lorain, was walking north on Clifton Avenue with his brother, four-year-old Thomas Harrington Jr., on his shoulders.
The duo was walking the eastside of the roadway when authorities allege Whitfield struck them with her vehicle.
Witnesses told authorities that instead of stopping, the 1997 Green Toyota Camry sped from the scene.
Hollingsworth and Harrington were left lying in the roadway until a motorist stopped to help.
The two had to be LifeFlighted to Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital for treatment for their injuries.
