Shelby Girl, 6, Receives 140 Stitches After Shark Bite
OCEAN ISLE BEACH, North Carolina — A six-year-old girl from Shelby is recovering after being bit by a shark off the coast of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.
According to a WWAYTV3.com report, the girl was swimming in shallow water near the shore Monday around 11:30 a.m. when the attack happened.
The report says that the girl’s mother told officials she had seen a shark following a school of fish in the area moments before the attack.
The six-year-old has been treated for her injuries and is currently recovering in a North Carolina hospital.
According to WGHP, the girl needed 140 stitches to close the wounds she suffered.
WGHP reports she and her family are in the area vacationing.
