Girl Gets New Skin After Suffering Severe Burns

(CNN) Timing was everything as doctors tried a procedure never done in South Africa before.

Surgeons had to work with bioengineers in the United States to save a little girl’s life.

She was severely burned when a bottle of lighter fluid exploded and burned over 80 percent of her body.

Using stamp-sized samples of her skin, bioengineers grew 41 palm-sized sheets and flew them to South Africa for the procedure.
