Dog Stolen From Shelter Returned
Sadie, a 1-year-old pug-beagle mix, was returned to the Oasis Animal Shelter on June 2, 2012.
OBERLIN, Ohio — Employees of the Oasis Animal Shelter were celebrating Sunday after their beloved pooch — stolen from them two weeks ago — was returned.
Shelter president Vera Opel told Fox 8 News that the Oberlin Police Department contacted her Saturday and delivered the good news: Sadie, a 1-year-old pug-beagle mix, had been found.
An anonymous tip led police to a man who was seen on surveillance video stealing Sadie. The video showed a pickup truck parked in front of the shelter’s kennels. A man approached the fence to greet the dogs, then used a bowl of cat food to lure Sadie out by lifting a weak section of the chain-link fence. He threw his arms up in celebration before driving off.
The Oberlin Police Department confirmed that the man in the video admitted to the dognapping, however, he has not been arrested or charged with a crime.
Opel said she didn’t know why the man stole Sadie, but is relieved that the pup was returned in good shape–clean and fed.
Now that Sadie is back, the shelter will work to find her a permanent, loving home.
