WESTLAKE, Ohio — The driver of a garbage truck suffered a medical condition behind the wheel causing the vehicle to crash into a pond, according to authorities.

Capt. Guy D. Turner with the Westlake Police Department tells Fox 8 News that an Allied Waste garbage truck drove into a pond on Westlake Village Drive at 8:37 a.m. Wednesday morning.

According to Turner, the 60-year-old driver suffered a medical emergency. The driver was conscious and breathing when officers arrived at the scene. He was taken to St. John Medical Center by the Westlake Fire Department.

Turner says the vehicle will be removed by Allied Waste.

It does not appear that any contents of the garbage truck spilled in the pond, which sits outside a senior living complex.
