Wife Sets Husband on Fire During Hot Oil Massage

AUSTIN, Texas — A man remains in critical condition in a San Antonio area hospital after allegedly being set on fire by his wife during a hot oil massage.

Officials with the Austin Police Department tell Fox 8 News that the husband told police that his wife, Shriya Biman Patel, 29, was giving him a massage when she allegedly poured gasoline over him and lit him on fire.

Cpl. Anthony Hipoito tells Fox 8 that the department’s investigation is ongoing, but Patel has been charged with arson and aggravated assault thus far.

According to a report, police and fire investigators found evidence that the wife had disabled smoke alarms and covered sprinkler heads with plastic bags in the couple’s apartment.

The report says the the couple had been married for a year, but Patel had been in the United States for just seven days before committing the attack.
