AKRON, Ohio -- One person died early Thursday morning when an ambulance and a sport utility vehicle collided in Akron, Fox 8 News reports.
The fatal accident happened just before 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of Wabash Avenue and West Cedar Street near Akron General Medical Center.
Akron Police tell Fox 8 News that, at the time of impact, three people were in the ambulance and four people, including the fatal victim, were in the SUV.
Summit County Medical Examiner's Office Chief Investigator Gary Guenther says that the person killed was later identified as Collins D. Green, 57, of Akron. Green was pronounced dead at Akron General at 3:45 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing. However, authorities confirm that the intersection lights were not on when the crash occurred.
Part of Cedar has been reopened to traffic.
