A former employee of Johnny Rockets was arrested early Thursday after he was caught on camera stealing about $900 worth of food, police said.

Alphonso Williams, 45, of Ashford Street, Hartford faces charges of third-degree burglary and fifth-degree larceny, police said. He was in custody Thursday morning on $2,500 bail and was scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Manchester later in the day.

Police sources have dubbed him “The Hamburglar.”

According to police, Williams and another former worker went into the restaurant in Evergreen Walk last year and stole about $900 worth of food. They had so much food, they had to use hand trucks to remove it, Sgt. Scott Custer said.

The investigating officer was able to identify Williams through the surveillance video, he said.
