Woman Dead, Man Arrested After Cleveland Hit-and-Run

Deadly Accident

CLEVELAND — A woman is dead and a man is in police custody after a Friday morning hit-and-run accident on Cleveland’s east side, Fox 8 News reports.

Cleveland Division of Police Sgt. Sammy Morris says that the two-vehicle crash occurred just after 2 a.m. at the intersection of Eddy Road and St. Clair Avenue.

Officers discovered that the operator of one of the vehicles, a 2000 Ford Expedition, had fled the scene. Both the Expedition and the other vehicle involved, a 1997 Buick Skylark, were heavily damaged.

Emergency medical services transported the Skylark’s driver — Neisha Coleman, 33, of Cleveland — to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Accident Investigation Unit detectives eventually located the drunken driver of the Expedition — Jeffrey Rox, 33, of Cleveland — in the 15900 block of Whitcomb Avenue. Rox was arrested for Aggravated Vehicular Homicide and Felony Hit-Skip.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Expedition was speeding eastbound on St. Clair when it ran a red light at Eddy and struck the Skylark, which then spun out of control and struck a metal pole.
