CLARIDON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — An overnight blaze in Geauga County has claimed the life of one person and a dog, Fox 8 News reports.

Firefighters tell Fox 8 News that they responded to a house fire on Mayfield Road in Calridon Township just after 3 a.m. They say flames were coming from the back of the home.

The Claridon fire chief says that the fire was under control in about 30 minutes, but crews remained on the scene long after as a precaution.

Division of State Fire Marshal Public Information Officer Shane Cartmill says that the human victim was a man, and that nobody else lived in the single-family house. Positive identification has not yet been confirmed. The man was transported to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

No evidence of a crime was discovered by investigators.

Cartmill says that the fire originated on the first floor family room at the rear of the home. No smoke alarms were found inside.

The Division of State Fire Marshal investigation is ongoing.
